The Compton Theatre Organ of the Granada Theatre Dartford is now installed at
Dingles Fairground Heritage Site.

In 1949, Granada Ltd. took over the nine cinemas of the Medway Cinemas.  This take-over included the State Theatre in Dartford, which opened in December 1935.  The Theatre renamed Granada soon after its takeover.

The Theatre had been fitted with a Compton Theatre Organ with 3 Manuals and 6 Ranks.  Unfortunately the Organ’s pipe chambers were housed under the stage and were completely immersed and severely damaged by flood water in 1968.

The Organ was repaired and sold in 1979 to Gunton Hall Country Club in Suffolk.  According to Cinema Treasures, the Organ is now at Dingles Fairground Museum in Devon.  The Theatre closed in June 1975 and was converted into a Granada Social Club, which opened later that year in October.   In May 1991, the Club became a Gala Bingo Club, which is still open today.
