Flower Seller - Piccadilly Circus

AN ADDITIONAL SET FOR YOUR DELIGHT
HOME PAGE

The following series of short tales also came about from an additional set of postcards sent to me by Dave Hill for which I am grateful.

The great joy of such illustrations is that they not only remind us of days gone by, but also of lost occupations.  Is it so bad to sit down and quietly think of times passed?  Certainly they remind us of a time that was seemingly more leisurely, but I am sure that it was also a time wrought with its own problems and difficulties.

Today, if we should spare a thought for the humble flower seller seated at her pitch, day after day, in rain or shine, we perhaps see her through a romantic eye clouded by images of the young and beautiful Audrey Hepburn.  Obviously the poor flower seller has been swept away with changing times and evidently has no place in our hustling and bustling society.

In this age of zoom lenses and digital cameras, I wonder if we would regard the Telescope Man with a certain amusement and find him and his occupation to be somewhat quaint?  Perhaps both are, after all, today, we have the London Eye to look at, don’t we!
