VICTORIA EMBANKMENT GARDENS
Hotel Cecil, Cleopatra’s Needle & The Main Gardens (with Band Stand)

Following the construction of The Embankment (1865-1870), a series of gardens were created on reclaimed land on the inner side of the Victoria Embankment, which follow the loop of the River Thames on the North Bank. As a child, I was often taken for walks along the Victoria Embankment, since my father was very fond of the area.

CHILDHOOD MEMORIES OF VICTORIA EMBANKMENT GARDENS
The Band Shell of the Victoria Embankment Gardens on a Summer’s Afternoon
I remember often walking with my parents along The Strand, as a child. In those days, The Strand was a very classy street. Mind you, in those days, The West End was a classy place and one dressed up in one’s finery to go there. It was indeed a special place.
