It was a warm Sunday afternoon in early Spring. The street was quiet except for the sound of a lawn mower being moved back and forth. There were no children in the street. It should have been a pleasant lazy Sunday afternoon. It was ……. until the noise of shouting was heard.
Apparently something had happened to disrupt the tranquility of the day ……. something that required investigation.

The Site of The Incident
The quiet Sunday afternoon was interrupted by the sound of shouting coming from a house in the western part of the town. The disruption of the calm atmosphere caused a neighbour to call the Police.
The tranquility of the day was further disturbed by the sound of a police siren coming nearer and nearer.

Response was quick, and a cruiser was dispatched and soon arrived in front of the house. All was apparently quiet when the officers arrived at the house. When they knocked at the door, it was opened by the owner who invited the officers to come inside.
The Police Cruiser
The room was tidy with no evidence of any violence having taken place. Preliminary questioning of the owner revealed that a theft had taken place at the home. The victim, and owner of the house, described clearly his version of the event. Seemingly, something had been stolen. Apparently the victim had cornered the alleged Perpetrator in the room who had made no attempt to escape.

The Alleged Perpetrator
When the officers arrived, the alleged perpetrator was sitting quietly on the couch in the living room and appeared undisturbed, by the events around him.
Although a theft appeared to have taken place in the house, a search of the room where the apparent culprit had been held did not reveal the missing article. A quick search of the rest of the house also gave no evidence of any stolen object.
During this time, the alleged perpetrator remained unperturbed and gave no comment when he heard the accusation being made against him.
When requested to produce some form of identification, the alleged suspect made no effort to offer an acceptable form. He also made no effort to answer any questions. As a result of his lack of cooperation, the officers decided to transport him and the victim to the station for further questioning.
Casanova/Puppy’s form of Identification that he was unwilling to provide to the Police
The officers informed the alleged perpetrator that since he was being accused of a crime, he was to be transported to the precinct for further investigation. He made no answer and offered no complaint at their request. As a result, the officers decided to read him his Miranda Rights* (see below).*

* Some officers will read an alleged suspect their Miranda Rights before bringing them to the precinct in order to avoid possible problems at a later date.

An object present on the coffee table, a blue plate, was felt to be relevant to the investigation and was collected for transportation downtown along with the principles.

Once outside, the suspect initially offered no resistance and appeared eager to get into the patrol car. However, a problem did develop when he insisted on sitting in one of the front seats. After some scuffling involving the police and the suspect, he was persuaded to take a seat in the back of the vehicle. Once settled, the party was ready for transportation to the precinct.

When the cruiser arrived at the precinct, several journalists were hanging around outside its entrance. As always, they were hoping that something of importance would happen, When they saw the party arriving at the station, they rushed over and feverishly began taking photographs of who they presumed was the alleged suspect. After being asked to leave the entrance to the precinct clear, they scurried off to call their editors with their news. Evidently, something BIG was about to break!

The alleged suspect was escorted into the station and was presented to the Desk Sergeant who asked for his name. Once again, he gave no answer. The victim said that his given name was Casanova Jenkins, but he was also known as Puppy, to which he answered. Both names were entered into the record. The Desk Sergeant informed the suspect that he was being asked to help in the investigation of a theft. He was once again asked if he wished for counsel. Again, no answer was given. He was then asked to empty his pockets and to surrender any personal articles. Seemingly, he had no personal articles with him and it was noted that he had no pockets.
After speaking with the Desk Sergeant, the alleged suspect was escorted to an interrogation room for questioning.

Ah-ha! Like any seasoned criminal, I see the suspect has aliases: Casanova and Puppy. Highly suspicious. Will continue to the next part to see how this is resolved . . .
