I have never been interested in birthdays. Even as a child, I was never especially happy or interested in my so-called special day. For this, I have often been called a misery, even by my own family! At school, I was forced by my mother to attend birthday party after party and take along presents that I would have liked to keep. The presents were always costly since my mother felt badly that I would not be inviting them back to celebrate my special day!
Later, when I went to work in hospitals, I found it quite ridiculous that I would be forever being asked to dip into my pocket and give something for a cake and hopeless present for someone who I did not especially care for! Of course, one did not dare to refuse such a request since people can be enormously vindictive when they feel slighted and when one relied on them to do their jobs.
Over the years I must have given a small fortune in such contributions for which I can not often recall receiving a thank-you. And believe me, I don’t recall ever getting a cake or gift when my special day rolled around, which suited grumpy me well!!!

This year, however, I thought that I would make an effort and so I decided to remember Casanova/Puppy’s birthday – I say birthday, but to tell the truth I never knew the exact date. I base his birthday on what his original owner told me, which was, as far as he could recall, that Casanova/Puppy had been born around the middle of June.
As a result, I chose the day after the birthday of a very special friend of mine who died a number of years ago. Now this year, June 14th, 2024, I planned to celebrate Casanova/Puppy day by giving him a special bone that I had purchased.

However, Fate can play tricks on us and now I find that it is too late to remember the day with him! And so, I have to remember the day alone. However, I am lucky ……… Casanova/Puppy was with me for seven years and I have many wonderful memories of him to remember, as the reader can discover.
