THE GRANADA THEATRE KINGSTON
-oOo-
The Granada Theatre Kingston, although the last theatre to open as a Granada, was in fact a take over. The Hyams Brothers, Phil and Sid, & A. J. Gale had planned a State Cinema here. The theatre opened in November 1939 and was equipped with the Wurlitzer Theatre Organ originally installed at the Picture House Edinburgh (a Gaumont cinema).
The Organ was apparently a Model F with 9 Ranks, but was enlarged to 10 Ranks and with 3 Manuals. It is believed that Reginald Dixon played it at the opening, but Allen Eyles does not mention this fact in his book.
This Organ was to be the last to be installed in a Granada Theatre. I have not been able to find out when it was removed and what happened to it until it came to a private home in Penzance, Cornwall.

Stephen Dutfield at The Wurlitzer Organ of the Granada Theatre Kingston
Mr. Dutfield informs me that this photograph was taken on 30th July, 1981 when he was 15 years old. He also said that there is a particularly deep lift pit at the former Granada Theatre Kingston together with a resulting precipitous flight of steps down to the console door.
